Occupation:
tried everything from picking fruit in the valley, working in a cannery or a saw mill to working in a creamer in Salmon Arm. During his early years he was a cowboy and played a guitar and sang western songs. During that period he followed the rodeos and rode bulls. At the end of his career he worked for the city of Penticton, where there is an Ohlhausen Road named after him. Alfred was a charming and colourful person who enjoyed life to the fullest.

worked on family history and prepared charts from many documents and other sources. Vi was the first true Ohlhausen family historian in Canada. We know that they were in contact with the very famous Hermann von Olnhausen from Frankfurt Germany, who is known as the authority of the Ohlhausen/Olnhausen family tree. We have copies of letters from Hermann from 1986 to 1995, which contain a great deal of family genealogy. Judging from the amount of material, we can assume that this hobby consumed both Alf and Vi during the later part of Vi's life.

the family left Canada and sailed from Eastport Idaho to Seattle and then on through San Francisco to||where they remained until 1926 when Magdalena contracted malaria and the family returned to Medicine Hat and then back to Leader Sask. for 1 year.

May (daughter of Andrew Kris Larson and Johanna Forsyth) was born on 05 Jan 1919 in Hanley, Saskatchewan, Canada; died on 12 Apr 1996 in Penticton, British Columbia, Canada; was buried on 17 Apr 1996 in Lakeview Cemetery, Penticton, British Columbia, Canada. Immigration:
To date we have not found the date and place they entered North America however stories in the family say that they arrived in Montreal in 1901 and it would be logical that they would join his brother, Anton, who arrived in Irvine, Alberta in 1899. However, again stories in the family say that at Winnipeg they diverted south to check out the farms in North Dakota. We know that a Jakob Tetzlaff emigrated from Tarutino, Bessarabia to North Dakota in 1894 and although we have not found a link from the Tetzlaff family in Tarutino to our branch of that family, we cannot ignore the possibility that they went to North Dakota to be with the family of Wilhelm’s wife, Louise Tetzlaff. The family story goes on to say that in North Dakota family Ohlhausen met a family that had been there for some time and felt the land too rocky and poor to make a living so were planning to immigrating to Canada. We know that the Christian Gill family had been in Kulm, North Dakota from 1894 and moved to Canada in 1902 and took a homestead just south of the Ohlhausen homestead south of Irvine, North West Territories (later Alberta), Canada. It is possible that our family, along with the Gill family, immigrated in Apr 1902, when they both entered their homestead in southern Alberta at the same time.

Occupation:
A 1927 map shows John Ohlhausen's name on 3/4 of section 17.|| This farm was across the road from his brother Henry H, near Acme, Alberta and was purchased from John Keim. Later he bought the Ed Fischer farm 8 miles west of town. The boys went to Rodney school along with cousins. Elma remembered the boys coming to the house asking to see the new baby when Eddie was born in Dec 1927. They farmed with sulky plows, drills, cultivators and harrows. They raised cattle, pigs, chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys.

where they bought a 22 acre farm and raised a few cattle.
