Bortscheag was a large French estate in the Russia territory and from the 1860's hired German workers. The village of Bortscheag was built around a former manor house and existed with church and school for the inhabitants and was about 6 km NE of the German villages of Albota and Sofiewka, where many of the inhabitants of Bortscheag moved and bought land.
Ferdinand Ohlhausen was a teacher and also part time Pastor and lived in Bortscheag before moving his family to Albota

  • Notes
    • baptized his son Jakob I
    • Bortscheag was a large estate owned and managed by people from France that employed German workers and was situated 6km northeast of the German settlement of Albota. Some research into the history of the Bortscheag Germans finds that many were so-called Separatists and followed Ignaz Lindl's religious teaching. Copies of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Books begin in 1864 and most of the entries for the next nearly twenty years were made by the teacher Ferdidand Ohlhausen.

    8. [S397] Elvire Necker, E-Mail, Ferdinand a Separatist, (18 Dec 2006), After examining the birth record of Jacob 1, Cornelia Schlarb, an expert in the field says " The letters under 'teacher at Jakobsonsthal' refer to the confession of the father and should be: Ev L. (Protestant Lutheran). here the letters are stoked out. Possibly your ancestorbelonged to the so-called 'Separatists'. When Lindl left Sarat, a time of great turmoil started in the communities and at the beginning of the 1840sa large separation and emigration began."

Elvire also writes: "It was known that the Schorr family were Separtists at that time, so it may be possible that Ferdinand belonged to that movement. As the teacher in the area, he was still allowed to performed certain church duties in the Lutheran church."; F1, page 38 + 16(3of12), Book F1, page 38.
