1. Daniel Wonnenberg b. 1872, was the brother of Justine (Wonnenberg) Koenig, who married Gottlieb Koenig.
2. Mary (Hoffman) Wonnenberg b. 1879, wife of Daniel
3. Elizabeth (Koenig) Jerke b. 1883, sister of Gottlieb and wife of John Jerke
4. John Jerke b. 1878, husband of Elizabeth
Daniel W and his sister Justine W (then m. to Gotlieb K.) immigrated to the USA 1899. Daniel was in Granada, CO. in 1907 to help his sister on a rented farm as Gottlieb K. had died in March 1907.
John Jerke and Elizabeth (Koenig) Jerke immigrated to Granada in Dec 1907 to be united with her brother and family, only to discover that Gottlieb had died in March of that year.
The four people in this picture ended up in the Greeley-La Salle area of Colorado where they raised their families and are buried in Lynn Grove Cemetery in Greeley.
The John Jerke Family Bible ended up in the Daniel Wonnenberg family, who several generations later assumed it was a Wonnenberg family bible (the Bible is in German). Happily it ended up back with the Jerke family. This picture reminds us that these two families must have been very close and we do not know the circumstances surrounding the bible, but we can imagine a situation whereby it may have ended up in the wrong family. |

Notes |
- The family immigrated to the USA on a ship 'Hannover' leaving Bremen, Germany 14 Nov 1907 and arriving Galveston, TX, 7 Dec 1907. They went to Granada CO to meet her brother, Gottlieb only to find that he had passed away earlier that year.

- [S239] Compiler: Arthur Flegel, Bessarabian Communities, (Germans from Russia Heritage Collection, NDSU Libraries, Fargo ND 58105, 2005), In his book, Arthur Flegel shows Elizabeth's parents as Gottlieb and Karoline Zink. He wrote an email to Wayne Fuller on 29 Nov 2006 in which he said "I personally interviewed Jacob Koenig in 1971 at Greeley. He was then a very old man. He gave me Gottlieb Koenig as his father and Wilhelmine Guenther also called Salomine as his mother. Wilhelmine died a few months after Jacob was born in 1878 and his father, Gottlieb married Karoline Zink, who he said was the mother of Elisabeth and that couple also had two more children. According to Jacob, he and Elisabeth were half brother, half sister--same father, different mothers.”
Jacob Koenig, who changed his name to Jacob Konig, to avoid confusion with his mail, also lived in the Grover area of Colorado and Wayne Fuller interviewed several of his descendants in 2004, but has not been able to make a 'direct' connection between this Jacob and Elizabeth (Jerke) and Wayne's great grandfather Gottlieb Koenig. During the interviews with the Konig family, Shirley Konig Klingensmith gave Wayne a copy of a note she had about the relationship between Elizabeth and this Jacob, which states that they were cousins. Also the Konig family has a hand written document that says Jacob's father was Joseph and that he was a cousin to Elizabeth. This contradicts the Flegel interview information.
