  To date we have not found the date and place they entered North America however stories in the family say that they arrived in Montreal in 1901 and it would be logical that they would join his brother, Anton, who arrived in Irvine, Alberta in 1899. However, again stories in the family say that at Winnipeg they diverted south to check out the farms in North Dakota. We know that a Jakob Tetzlaff emigrated from Tarutino, Bessarabia to North Dakota in 1894 and although we have not found a link from the Tetzlaff family in Tarutino to our branch of that family, we cannot ignore the possibility that they went to North Dakota to be with the family of Wilhelm’s wife, Louise Tetzlaff. The family story goes on to say that in North Dakota family Ohlhausen met a family that had been there for some time and felt the land too rocky and poor to make a living so were planning to immigrating to Canada. We know that the Christian Gill family had been in Kulm, North Dakota from 1894 and moved to Canada in 1902 and took a homestead just south of the Ohlhausen homestead south of Irvine, North West Territories (later Alberta), Canada. It is possible that our family, along with the Gill family, immigrated in Apr 1902, when they both entered their homestead in southern Alberta at the same time. Role: Witness

The correctness of the birth date and name of the parents was verified by a certoficate from the Baptist Pastor K. Filbrand dated June 12, 1891. This birth record indicated that the birth place was the village of "Neu Wittenberg" and that the birth was registered at the district administration office of Albota (Neu Wittenberg". The GRHS village co-ordinator for Wittenberg, found the chronicle for "Albota--The Village," where there was a statement: "Ninety seven percent of the founders had come from Wittenberg. Therefore their new villiage originally had the informal name of Neu Wittenberg." The village was formally named Ober-Albota at a later date.; Jans1, pp 23-26, Jans1, page 23-26.
