- a farmer and a Mayor of Sofiewka, however his biggest challenge was as a member of parliament in Bucharest from 1919-22 after he was elected from the district of Ismal as a member of the Bessarabian farmers party. During this time period Romania introduced the much-hated expropriation laws where no farm was allowed to be larger than 100 hectares. The land taken by the government was then given to the poor. At the time Jakob had accumulated quite a bit of land which fell under this new law. He was a religious man and the Bible group met regularly at his house.
