- [S84] Marian Quast Wathen, Interview, Quast Marian Wathen 2004, (26 march 2004), Marian recounted her mother's story that they were originally planned to come to USA with her family (Wonnenbergs) in 1899, but stayed behind to travel with her husband's family. Her mother said that this almost ended in tragedy as the Russian army was recruiting all the men in the Caucasus area for the army and the Quast family had to run out during the night and take a very old rusty boat to America where they landed in Galveston Tx in 1905. They then went to Oklahoma to meet the Wonnenberg family and found out that Dorothea's father had passed away. Marian said that the trip was miserable and they lost one child (buried at sea) during the voyage.; Q1, page 22a, Q1, page 21,22.
